Sullivan & Associates, LLC attorneys were able to obtain a successful settlement in a products liability action from a national manufacturer of medical devices including artificial hip replacement systems designed and manufactured by DePuy, Inc., the makers of ASR metal-on-metal hip products.
The flawed design of this artificial hip included a metal femoral head (ball) connected to a metal acetabular cup (socket). The grinding of the ball on the surface of the socket through foreseeable daily use created an unstable interface.
The friction which was created between these two metal surfaces caused the hip implant to fail. This resulted in a significant settlement of $237,500.00.
